Progression and difficulty of the game are not directly correlated with eachother. I played skyrim, Fallout 3, Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption, and many other great open world games for months each (I still play Skyrim occasionally). Why? Because each game immersed me in their universe with great story telling, interesting and unique random events out in the world (known as emergent storytelling), and each game occasionally had puzzles or challenging situations which forced me to keep trying them until I got it right. Are you seriously suggesting Destiny has any of that? Spending a month playing a game because I can only access parts of it 1 week at a time, or shooting the same 6 enemy types hundreds of times in the same 5 strikes over and over and over again is not challenging.
