think about the concept of light levels
controlled by rng
everytime u get the gear to go up a level, u actually drop a level (or at minimum lose exp and have to grind back to your original exp level then some to reach desired level).
bungie isnt even trying to make this game engaging. they are using psychology to keep people playing rather than content and story. saves #bungievi$ion development dollars i guess, f the consumers

You're right. I didn't mention the light levels but as you said, their inclusion is another carefully thought out business tactic. It completely destroys the notion of "customization" since players are forced into gear with more light levels and not enough alternative choices of gear with the same light levels. And like you said, everything about them exists to artificially increase the time spent in the game.
