[/quote] Acutally, both Durandal and Cortana do stumble upon "holy relics" so to speak. With Cortana it's the index and the Forerunner information and such. I never really got huge into the lore post Halo 3, so someone else would have to investigate this angle further. With Durandal, it's the player character, who was "grafted to machines your builders didn't understand." At least, that would be my best guess. Marathon has a lot of parallels to the song of Roland, but none of the elements are seem consistent enough to allow us to draw conclusions from it.
