Your 80/20% comparison has no basis in reality. It takes me about the same number of hours to max my weekly marks. You can get it 4 games an hour in Crucible, all losses nets you 8 marks, all wins gets you 12. Running patrol on Earth and hitting as many events as you can (fastest way I've found to get marks) gets you roughly the same, maybe a few more if you do catch every single event.
The expansion is primarily PvE content, not PvP.
Finally, Crucible Marks are specifically supposed to be PvP currency. It sucks a player cannot buy FWC armor without them, and I hope that will change, but to believe that CRUCIBLE MARKS should be available for people who don't play Crucible is ridiculous. I believed from the get-go the trade-in system of mats for marks was a poor idea. Now that we have quite a few new ways to gain mats, something a vocal part of the community complained about, we have new problems since people have less of a chance to game the system. I for one am willing to sacrifice trading-in mats for the fact I'm earning a bunch more just doing what I'm already doing, i.e. Daily Missions, Patrol bounties.
