I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that with both systems in place you could effectively convert Vanguard marks into Crucible marks.

Not sure why that would be a bad thing. In the end, it would hace been a 5:1 exchange rate. Which would have been a bit pricey, but useful.

Yeah you could but you are going to burn a lot of marks in the process, I mean your exchange rate would be what 30 vanguard marks for 5 crucible once it was all said and done? Thats pretty inefficient. 10 marks to 20 mats. 30 marks=50 mats. 50 mats to 5 crucible.

This is exactly why. It would destroy incentive to play both modes, straight up.

Didn't Bungie once say you can play destiny any way you want? I could be wrong.

As long as "you" implies a plural party that they won't help you matchmake when it matters, and "how you want" means within the bounds of how they allow you to play, subject of course to arbitrary patching :)
