PC or consoles, doesn't matter, Halo didn't invent sandbox because it wasn't a sandbox and because there were sandbox before.
Halo has wide corridors and arenas but never was a sandbox like GTA, Assassin's, Far Cry, etc. Destiny made the next step, even if it's not a pure sandbox either.

In terms of FPS consoles copied everything done on PC previously, so OK, Halo was a good pupil of PC pioneers.
