Not true, Codename Eagle, Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, GTA III and a bunch of PC RPG titles pioneered sandbox. Halo is not a sandbox, it has some wide arenas, no doubt about it, but it's not open world and its story is linear. Some people is complaining that Destiny is not a sandbox, Halo is way more linear.
