Not true, Codename Eagle, Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, GTA III and a bunch of PC RPG titles pioneered sandbox.
Halo is not a sandbox, it has some wide arenas, no doubt about it, but it's not open world and its story is linear. Some people is complaining that Destiny is not a sandbox, Halo is way more linear.

Edited by ILLBlood23: 11/29/2014 10:24:46 PMThose are all PC games, and GTA isn't even a FPS. I was specifically referring to consoles, and yes Halo 3 ODST as well as Halo Reach were sandbox video games. Corridor shooter (to me) is Call Of Duty (any of them) and Medal Of Honor, KillZone and Golden Eye. Non Linear stories are not a requirement to be considered sand box

PC or consoles, doesn't matter, Halo didn't invent sandbox because it wasn't a sandbox and because there were sandbox before. Halo has wide corridors and arenas but never was a sandbox like GTA, Assassin's, Far Cry, etc. Destiny made the next step, even if it's not a pure sandbox either.

Edited by ILLBlood23: 11/29/2014 10:37:59 PMI clearly stated "pioneered on consoles". Halo didn't have to invent anything, before halo there wasn't a single FPS ON CONSOLES similar to halo

In terms of FPS consoles copied everything done on PC previously, so OK, Halo was a good pupil of PC pioneers.
