I will tell you the same thing I told everyone else who doesn't "Feel Legend".
The Value of something is determined by the individual who owns it.
Bungie cannot give you a story and make you the hero of said story. That story, your legend, is something you must take hold of and shape yourself. That is what Bungie wants.
No one but you can give Value to it.
No one can craft your legend but you.
That said, if you ware looking for a "Man against God Showdown" tale, look somewhere else.
The tale told here is that the Darkness is just as badly wounded as the Traveler. It's hurt and doesn't even have a fraction of the power it had at it's height during the collapse.
This next part is important and will be on the test.
You cannot stand against the Darkness at it's full power.
I will say it again.
You cannot stand against the Darkness at it's full power.
The story of Destiny is not to seek out the Darkness and destroy it. It's already wounded enough. The story of Destiny is that of the Guardians doing everything they possibly can to keep the Darkness wounded and unable to recover while trying to heal the Traveler. The balance has shifted in our favor and we want to keep it there.
The Darkness is fighting to keep the status quo and regain the edge. If it recovers before the Traveler. We're -blam!-ed.
We need to ensure the reverse happens. That the Traveler recovers before the Darkness. While we thrwart the plans of the four races currently occupying Sol, we are thwarting the Darkness's return to power.
We are not fighting a God in it's final form. We are fighting a wounded beast and ensuring it does not recover to hunt again.
That's the Difference you are making Guardian. To make sure we don't lose the war a second time.
Because we won't survive it.
...The only sound at the moment in her ears was the amplified sound of her own breathing contained in her helmet. She wiped uselessly at the visor, trying to clear the coolant soaked clumps of red sand from her vision. Strewn about the two of them lay the useless wrecks of at least three dozen Vex or so of various makes. Bits of Harpies strewn around Goblins and Hobgoblins. Even a Hydra lay beyond her current opponent.
The wounded Minotaur was still going strong. Despite appearing to be the same as it's fallen brethren. This one was different. It was tenacious, still standing despite the damage done to it. It's shields offline.
But she was empty on all magazines. No time to reload. She loved a challenge. Dropping the empty rifle to the ground she raised her fists and invited the Minotaur to make the first move.
With a wailing roar the mechanical creature took the invitation and charged. Bring both it's fist down trying to crush the Titan, she countered. The servos whining as they acted on her command to drive her fists with enough force to drive upward and deflect the hammer blows just enough to ether side. Following up her heavily plated knee drove upward toward the codpiece striking it with enough force to crush any organic male genitalia to a pulp... if it had had any. Settling instead for the complaints of the Minotaur's servos as it stumbled backwards from the impact she raised a foot and kicked it backwards into a sitting position.
Grabbing it's shoulders she reared back before slamming her head forward into the head of the Minotaur. The satisfactory skull rattling sensation reverberating through her as the head popped off. Reaching into the neck she stirred her hand around randomly ripping out wires and smashing whatever her hand could reach as the Minotaur screamed in pain, jerking and twitching with each pass of her hand.
Finally finding something to her liking, she gripped it and pulled hard. The body fell over and seized.
"Steve."
She held up the object as her Ghost materialized from her form and began scanning it. "Random Vex Chatter. Nothing intelligible... wait. There's a list of objectives partially encrypted."
"Well unencrypt it."
"You mean decrypt it."
"Steve..."
"That would be hard without the encryption key-and done."
The woman snorted and shook her head. "Now can you tell me what a sizable force of Vex just happened to be doing wandering around the Wastes without attracting Cabal attention?"
The Ghost just blinked at her.
"Just answer the question."
"They appear to be scouting."
"Liar."
"Surveying would be a more accurate description."
"That's more like it. What for?"
"Possible construction sites for more Warp Gates."
"How many more?"
The Ghost transmatted the Vex Storage drive into it's inventory before turning to face the Titan. "7."
The Titan picked up her rifle and started reloading her weapons. "Seven more mass graves coming up then."
"Why would they be building so many?"
"The area is nearly abandoned and the Cabal haven't attacked once. You ask me this is the perfect location for a staging ground for a massive invasion force. One that they probably calculated the Cabal don't even stand a chance of repelling."
"That isn't like the Vex. This area is too far away to mount any sort of invasion."
"They've done strange things before. None of them good. I say we nip this in the bud before anything happens regardless. Even if they could repel the Cabal, that's one less target for the other factions and anything that can expect the Cabal from Mars would not be good for the City. They'd siege us out easier."
"I'll relay the information to the City and request reinforcements. BEHIND YOU!"
Her arm snapped up as she wheeled. The whistling sound bring her attention to the rocket flying her way which she backhanded out of the air to the side where it exploded. The Ghost already vanishing to the safety of her person. "Seems the Cabal were watching the whole time and now want what we found!" The Ghost echoed in her helmet.
The Titan turned to face the raiding party. The Shotgun across her shoulders. The Cabal surrounded her aiming their weapons at her. The Titan's hands resting on the shotgun on her shoulders. They bellowed and roared at each other. She watched them try to contain her.
With a single hand, she chambered the first round into the weapon with the pump action.
That motion caused the Cabal to start unloading their entire store of ammunition on her. Their rounds flying toward her, striking and exploding.
This went on for a while until one of the Centurions gave an order and they stopped firing.
As the smoke cleared, the Titan grinned unseen under her visor as the sight of her still standing seemed to give the Cabal pause.
She started laughing.
As the rounds started flying, her legs propelled her forward. Their vocalizations music to her ears. Her mind translating them as panicked screams of someone who had just witnessed something unholy as she tore through this group, adding Cabal blood and guts to Vex coolant and servos.
The message being passed?

Nobody is going to make you Legend.
Legends make themselves.
Make yours Guardian. Because no one else is going to.

Good read sir...very well put

Nice story big guy. But I still want a bit more "man versus the big bad". Small stories about keeping a wounded foe off balance are still small stories. I'm not speaking of the story you posted - it is good. Give us something with sweep, Bungie. Something that foreshadows our return to greatness. Maybe make us feel a bit more desperate. Let us defend the city against a big attack.
-
Perhaps in future entries into the series we might see that. For now we're setting the stage.
-
ya to steal our money!!!!!!! "we're" do you work for bungie?
-
Do my tags say I do or am I simply an active participant by providing feedback allowing me to feel as though it's my work too? Steal your money? Since when did buying a product become stealing? Do you think that every time money comes out of your pocket for something?
-
Edited by roc: 12/2/2014 2:15:51 AMya if you con me into giving it to you then ya. but i really dont care about the money i wasted much more than that on much worst it just kills me to know i was lied too and im more mad at my self for getting all hyped up and ya i still play and I'll be kicking crotas @$$ i just want them to know that i know whats really up.
-
Exactly This is why I am the legend of the shards I am the shard master, the man that went crazy because his only rewards were shards....and energy I am the boss of the 4th Raid. 4th you say? Yes the 4th Thank you Bungie.
-
Hey go for it. If there's a story to be told, tell it. All legends start somewhere.
-
This is the most stupid fan boy post I have ever read. Make my own legend? Write my own fan fiction? The amount of time it took to write that f.u.c.king nonsense and to read it is beyond stupid. Yeah, I want to play a completed game, not write up fan fiction about my guardian kicking a metal robot in the man junk. Pathetic. Stupid , ass, game.
-
That is a good story, man.
-
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the kind of person who will not appreciate anything in life. Not even the so called "completed game" they're looking for.
-
Actually I appreciate tons of stuff in my life. So there goes that stupid ass theory. Word of advice, if you want to play a quality game, go play Farcry 4. Not write up fan fiction for this stupid game. Try actually playing a game instead of writing stories oh how your character SHOULD be a bad ass in a game but isn't.
-
I did. Now I'm adding to the Destiny Universe in my own way. I'm adding the Legend I was promised to the framework provided. It's good honest work. You should try it.
-
Denial is hard to argue against. Ever played a mass effect game? Compare personal attachments in npc's for Destiny vs those found in many of the final fantasy games, halo series, mass effect series. And for god's sake, the possessive way of spelling it is "its," not "it's."
-
I have and Destiny caters to my sense of investigation. Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, and Halo all serve up the exposition on a silver platter. Destiny does not and forces me to engage it making me more involved in puzzling out the story and carving my own path out of the game. Which brings me back to the point you missed. You make your own legend. That is how you become such. Nobody will make you one.

Edited by Weasle: 11/30/2014 5:33:58 AMLol, The reason you are *puzzled* about the story is because there is not one. Why don't you go play a Call of Duty game, and then "Puzzle" over why reinforcements are spawning, or why there are N.a.zi Zombies. Hmm N.a.zi Zombies? OMG, Hitler is trying to come back and rule the world in World war 3 thats why?! I could only see your dumb ass story in regards to that. (The lone warrior sprints through the destroyed complex. Trying to find his squad.) (Must report to his friends to inform them that the Zombie Apocalypse has started, but why?) (After kicking a zombie in the balls, or where his balls WOULD have been since they rotted off, he notices that the zombie is wearing a N.a.zi uniform), (After he finally finds his squad and is about to tell them what is happening, he starts to compose himself and catch his breath). (N.a.zi's are trying to resurrect Hitler to take over the world he starts to say.... but his squad says.... "BEHIND YOU), (The problem is our hero has no time to reload and no points to buy a gun off the wall.........) THE PROBLEM IS YOUR STORY IS F.UC.KING GAY Do the Internet a favor, stop writing fan fiction for a broken ass game.

Nice. Keep praticing.

No I read your alleged point, and it, points to you trying to rationalize away Destiny's terrible pace in narrative, level of immersion, as well as its repetitive nature. Of course, you can also say things like "since Destiny deals with time traveling agents, we are stuck in a time loop, it fits with the story and the repetitiveness of it all." Wake up and realize grimoire is this game's basis of a development crisis, and shipwreck, highlighted by your main writer's immediate departure. I choose to reply to you out of a sense of personal interest in the pursuit of truth, not to change your mind, that part is up to you. Not that you would either, your unwavering stance proves this to a tee.
-
See now this is something I take issue with. You ask for an explanation and I give it to you. Then you turn around and mock me for giving you "excuses". I will admit I'm even having trouble replying to you because I can't figure out what any of this has to do with the topic at hand and feels more like a personal attack rather then trying to refute my point. The Topic being the individual in question feels there is no value in their time spent in game. My Point being only you can give value to what you create. Are you trying to change the topic to the never ending argument of lack of story or are you just bitter and jealous of my ability to go deeper in something that looks shallow and feel the need to assault me for it?
-
Lol Please, be serious. What's your grand point, that we are all a collective force of individual guardians pushing back the vague darkness? Yeah that is, how you claim, "spoon fed" to you in vidocs, trailers, beginning, and the ending. There's no deeper meaning there. The days of being in total amazement at a tv remote ended about 18 years ago, I'd hope.
-
Yep. The latter it is. Three posts and each time you try to change the subject. I told you what my point was. "The Value of anything is only determined by the individual in question." Each time you have gone off track. You're not refuting any points, you're attempting to attack an "easy target". Come on cupcake, actually engage me here. Or does your "search for the truth" prevent you from collecting data from any and all sources. Even ones you may not agree with?

Or maybe you've reached your limit here; frowning upon ad hominems while practicing that very act. I think I follow you. Ask me a question in relation to your point, and I'll answer. Otherwise this is a waste of time. "The value of anything is only determined by the individual in question." I mostly agree with it. Mirrored value systems tend to go a long way, no doubt. How about merit? Or is this mutually exclusive? Are you claiming there's no objective way to judge this(a) game?
-
I got my point across now it seems. Closing dialog.
-
You're trying to fill your own reasons in place of what's missing. This does not qualify the game as infallible, as you tried to do with your mention of personal values in relation to anything. You have to be deluded to negatively address the games I mentioned earlier, while defending this half assed game's "story." There is endless potential in a game that takes place in the solar system, but there needs to be worthwhile material to kickstart and fulfill this immense potential.
-
You would make a great motivational speaker. If you aren't already. The thing is, that would be true if this were real life. But it's not. And the fault lies with Bungie, because there's nothing to do. I don't spend $60 so I can make my own fun. I pay for it so they can give me my fun. That's not to say I don't expect to put in work for my fun though. I've played all of From Software's Souls games, and I'm extremely proficient at every one of them. I've put more hours into that series than I feel comfortable putting into text, but it's mostly because it held my attention for so long.
