The Destiny franchise has been designed around Bungie's 10 year publishing agreement with publisher Activision Blizzard.
This isn't news. The implication with that is, investments need to be returned in a timely manner. This means Bungie has to constrain their development time to meet deadlines. Which typically means release with bugs, patch later. There is no piece of software that exists (far as I'm aware), that isn't riddled with bugs and glitches. So imperfections are to be expected. However bugs and glitches aren't Destiny's problem.
The problem is that Destiny isn't fun. It's just a re-skinning of already existing game mechanics (that's why it's often compared with, World of Warcraft, Borderlands etc.), and does very little to innovate.
Bungie have the liberty of taking 10 years to improve this franchise and it seems that some 'loyal' fans are willing to keep funding Bungie in hopes of something great to arrive.
When it comes to games, I'm loyal to having fun. The moment a game stops being fun, I stop playing. So 10 years of Destiny means nothing to me if Destiny isn't fun now.
With gaming culture moving towards freemium-esque design (reinforcement scheduling), rather than sophisticated mechanics, complex strategies, emergent gameplay, contextualised achievements & rewards, skill based accolades/ rankings. Things that would really allow you to appreciate the value in the time spent doing something. Rather than very arbitrary item drops and time based levels.
Bungie will do what ever they can to mitigate the lack of value in their game, but my standards are set high enough to recognise when something isn't worth my time & money.
If you really want to invest time and money into exploring space and shooting, here's a game. Star Citizen!
Destiny is a step(s) back from Halo, what a shame.

Having 10 years to build on this foundation is more of a curse at this point, being activision's bitch must suck
-
Are your issues not with MMO's in general though?
-
Destiny is nowhere near mmo. At the very most you can interact with 11 other people. How the -blam!- is that massively multilayer?
-
Don't focus too much on player size, the mechanics of the game are exactly the same as an MMO
-
It's just CoD with some light RPG elements. Defiance is a real MMO! However, I only enjoy JRPG's. The Japanese know how to make a game!
-
Defiance is crap, if Destiny were anywhere near that bad we wouldn't be having this conversation because the game would've never taken off.
-
At least Defiance has a story, loot, and Massive Multi-player Online! You judgy are a fraud and a sorry excuse of a life!
-
A fraud? Go away you idiot
-
Defiance is garbage though
-
Also Bungie hates microshaft! The company that helped put 'em on the map! God bless Hideo Kojima blows all this garbage out of the water with Metal Gear Solid! A real game anyone disagrees you are a Fu*king joke!
-
Not really, Resonance of fate is soooooo much better than anything destiny could ever become enjoy your actish*t

Edited by L0rth1c: 11/28/2014 3:24:31 PMThat is most definitely false. I can tell you're not an mmo player. Destiny has mmo elements, though it is in no way massively multiplayer (you can't have mmo without those first 2 words). You cannot craft, or trade. There is one raid, which is basically a glorified level. There is no true character progression, no stat or attribute points--only abilities. Please enlighten me.
-
I'm not talking about the massively multiplayer elements, don't correct me on that again because I've said it twice now. The mechanics ARE the same as most MMOs that isn't up for debate. The game lacks the depth and features that you may find in most MMOs and I'd agree that it is shallow in that regard but the biggest gripes I tend to see repeated are gripes that people have with the MMO mechanics rather than Destiny specifically.
-
The mechanics don't bother me at all--mmo-like, or not. It's the lack of versatility which causes Destiny to fall far short of most MMO Alpha releases.
-
No, the mechanics are inarguably FPS. Steps for Destiny: 1. See enemy 2. Shoot enemy 3 repeat steps 1-2. How the hell is that remotely close to mmo?
-
Edited by Dazzle369: 11/29/2014 3:59:20 PMDestiny is nothing like an MMO, but the mission mechanics are comparable to that of Borderlands and World of Warcraft. Borderlands is essentially WoW without the MMO. MMOs would be great if they weren't just WoW reskins. Destiny's online is comparable to that of Red Dead Redemption/ GTA 4/5, which isn't a bad thing. The point is there isn't much to do in Destiny. Ok if you scrutinise the FPS mechanics only, the stredgies you employ are exactly that of which @Hooshrdady mentioned. 1. See enemy 2. Shoot enemy 3 repeat steps 1-2. Boring and repetitive. I would play Destiny if at least there was actually a story to follow, but I'm struggling to find one. Also, where did Marty O'Donnell go?
