Okay I'll just say it...what does dichotomy mean? I know I can just look it up, but I'd just like to save everyone else the trouble.

It's essentially a fancy word to say that one thing is opposite to another. In essence, the speaker saying that the world is coming to an end is totally opposed to how it actually is, out there in the field. They tell me the darkness is going to kill everyone. That it is a flood and guardians are the floodgates. But it's all quiet out there. There's no flood. False alarm, y'all.
