Because if you could you could easily stop time travel from being invented when it was. Thus, you would disappear and cause and infinite regression. Time travel doesn't work. Only as a silent, invisible observer can time travel be used.

But what if it would only allow you to observe ?

Then you can see how horrible the world is, and be able to do nothing about it.
