How did Johnson Keyes and arbiter get from delta halo to earth before master chief?

Truth had the Keyship exit in the outer Solar System in order to attempt to dispatch the Chief before moving to Earth. So he lingered around for awhile.

Nonetheless, the dreadnought was the fastest ship in the covenant navy. There is no way Johnson Keyes and Arbiter could have gotten back to earth beforehand and they did not take a covenant ship because they needed them for the flood quarantine and they would have used said ship to attack the dreadnought in the storm. Since the in amber clad was the only human ship at delta halo how could these three have possibly reached earth at all before the chief and the dreadnought?

The Keyship being their fastest ship is irrelevant because even if they arrived at Earth before them, they purposely took it slow on the way to Earth, because they didn't want to deal with the Chief when they got to Earth. There is yet to be an explanation for how exactly they made it back, but it's not out of the question they hitched a ride on a Covie ship.
