He killed the remaining human presence in the Kaphrae system and traveled to the Composer's Forge when Static Carillon opened the service portal to Gamma Halo. When the UNSC lost contact with the humans stationed on the ring itself, Lord Hood sent in Blue Team. Upon arriving at the ring, they traveled through the Service portal to the Composer's Forge only to discover the Didact had acquired Gamma Halo's Activation Index and six Composers. He transported Gamma Halo to the Composer's Forge and prepared for his plans. Blue Team's efforts at stopping the Didact proved futile, as he would defeat John, Fred, Kelly, and Linda. The Chief only managed to stop him by working with Static Carillon to eject Gamma Halo's control room into the Composer's Forge, an act which would compose the Didact.
