Yes obviously but they would add more exotics end remember that the red is completely customisable by you.

Hmm I dont know. I think the easiest way is to implement a armor tier upgrade. This way you could even upgrade your level 1 armor to legendary tier (Exotic tier stays as it is). You could buy these tier upgrades for motes of light.
