  • Yes, why else would it be called a HUD?

  • Because it's a misconception. http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Heads_Up_Display Look at the Terminology section.

  • While it may be, terminology changes, and in the video game industry, a HUD can be the same thing as an HMD.

  • Alright then, here's another one. Name and size of the Covenant fleet that discovered Earth during the course of the Human-Covenant War. Also, what was surprising about said fleet?

  • There were two Fleets that did such a thing. One was 500 strong and was preparing to assault Earth at the station Unyielding Hierophant. The second, (name escapes me), was comprise of 15 ships. It was lead by the Prophet of Regret who ordered his fleet to make an immediate slipspace jump to Earth after discovering the location to the gateway portal to the Ark from a Luminary he had captured in 2551. The Luminary did not mention who were the inhabitants of Earth, and as a result, was woefully under prepared.

Despite what was assumed by the humans before they conducted Operation: FIRST STRIKE, the Unyielding Hierophant was in fact not preparing for an invasion of Earth against humanity, but rather to secure the portal to the Ark, which can only be accessed from Earth. The surviving ships from the Hierophant's destruction are the ships invading Earth at the beginning of Halo 2. Because the ships were not aware of humanity's overwhelming presence they were caught off guard, and consequentially the Prophet of Regret had to make a slipspace jump to Installation 05. Copied from Uneven Elephant's article on the halo wiki.

  • 1. Halo Wiki is a fan site, and is not canon. 2. The article is outdated in the light of Halo 2 Anniversary. The odds of Truth knowing the portal to the Ark was there is highly unlikely, and given the size of the fleet he commissioned, it certainly indicates that he knew of the military presence at Earth.
