Well that's your choice, but you're only hurting yourself, gaming experience wise. The backwards compatibility would have turned the original $500 xbox set into an $800 set, and even $500 was pushing it a bit too far. Also, a pc/computer for $350/$400 would not really run any games at anywhere near the level of the xbox one or ps4.
