I love my Hunter! I do but I can tell you from experience on the subject-I have lvl30 Hunter, high lvl29 warlock, & lvl29 Titan(after I level his newly acquired raid gear. -the lock and Titan have the best grenades for clearing/slowing a large group (AOE damage). Both of then can setup for two grenades to hold. That can be a life saver, yours or your teammates. -the Titan has weapons light. This alone will dramatically cut atheon slaying time to a minimal. Not to mention a nice shield for your team. -the lock can SELF REVIVE. There's no getting around it, it's the best perk for hard mode and just survivability. -I say all this but I think having a couple of Hunters in the fire team is important for oracles, enemies, & the force field put around you in hard mode when your one of the few that do not get teleported. All in all their not the best suited for the raid but I think their the best killers.
