Idling is appropriate in one case: when you're idling on your own preformed fireteam with prior consent of your team mates. Sometimes a matchmade player can do more damage to strategy than an idle friend. Plus the idle friend has a way of charging in at the last minute to grenade the boss for the kill. Those of us who are in the fight then get to race to beat the boss before they arrive. And I'm not clearly one or the other. I don't usually always run, but I usually only kill enemies that can't be avoided, and I've also turned into a 100% runner for summoning pits.

  • In this case you're talking about a very special circumstance. While you and your friend may know what's up, the 3rd match made individual may not. Very tough and case-specific scenario. My 2 centavos: if you have to idle for some reason just back out of match making. If you're completely going idle and letting your friend work the strike so you can be safe I'd say you're doing it wrong. You have a friend on the strike. If you die, just back out and rejoin. It will wipe the death and you can keep contributing and get the bounty completed. Win win win. Cheers. Thanks for posting.

The situation involves a full fireteam. The only way match making is involved is to avoid it. Everyone is in the loop about what's going on.
