I love this idea! Granted, neither the play station nor the xbox (new or old gen) can handle massive amounts of things on screen at once, you could have 'assignments'. Follow me on this: When there was an attempt on our wall, all players would receive a red banner (ticker tape style) on the top 1/5th of your screen (as not to blind you during your current chosen task). If you chose to enter it, you would go through the motions as if you were going to jet to orbit except, instead of choosing "go to orbit" there would be a third option of "head to wall assignment". A wall assignment would allow 6-10 players (no idea what the consoles could handle efficiently given the fps limit) to protect their section of wall. Giving section assignments would fit into the game nicely without having people feel the need to be in a crowd. I.e. after opting in, a ticker tape banner would read as "You have been assigned section Bravo-163, fallen are amassing two clicks out. Prepare for battle! Incoming drop ships!" There could even be an upper and lower wall defense grid system. Lower grid would be a ground pound. Infantry, tanks, pikes, etc. while upper would be turrets, AA, and mortar-type engagements. I've seen this style of event suggested a few times now, and feel like it would make the destiny universe FEEL like we're all engaging something bigger. Something dynamic. Data could be collected by bungie on if the upper grids or lower grids were effective. And upon the next raid on our wall, would focus more on ground (if the upper grid was more effective) or more air (if the lower grid was more effective). Effectiveness would be evaluated based on k/d, accuracy, and total kills for each grid. I feel that something like this would make things a lot more spicy. Granted if it was something that happened more than once per day :) EDIT: I neglected to say that I was thinking the upper and lower grid assignments would be completely separate engagements. Meaning, if you were assigned to section Bravo-163: Lower, you would be pure ground pound. Likewise for Bravo-163: Upper... Then you would be firing upon tomb ships and the like, targeting their turrets, engines, and other key points.
