Dear Bungie, Destiny simply isn't what I expected. I've had great respect for the work you guys do from the first time I played Halo with my friends, and I followed the Destiny buildup until its release with edge-of-my-seat anticipation. To me, there's no story more compelling than that of humanity's very survival, and no pursuit more noble than fighting for the preservation of our species. It's what drew me to Halo, and what drew me to Destiny. It's teams of artists such as yourselves, who recognize the inherent nobleness of this concept and seek to bring it to millions, that inspire me, that give me something to look forward to after a long day at the office, that offer me the chance to escape a reality where the difference I make is marginal at best, and enter a reality where I have the chance to make a difference that feels like it matters, if only for a couple of hours every night. You brought me that sense of purpose and inspiration with Halo. But I don't feel this anymore. In Destiny, with a full loadout of legendary and exotic gear and having played through the full story, experiencing what the Crucible has to offer, battling my way through countless strike missions, finishing every bounty 100 times over, and exploring the complete extent of every map, I'm...bored. But it's worse than being bored. I don't feel anything. I've stuck with the game all these hours, whole days, desperately seeking to feel what I expected to when I first read about Destiny so many months ago. It isn't there. Although I initially thought that the lack of story was the problem, I've come to realize that the lack of story is only the tip of the iceberg. It's the part that's visible, that every Guardian who's also searching for that sense of purpose and fulfillment in Destiny can readily point to and say "That must be it". And it's a very valid concern. But the core problem with Destiny runs much deeper. The core problem, as far as I see it, is that you're utterly alone in the game. I'll attempt to expand as best I can. The reason the raid works so well (and is arguably the most successful part of the entire Destiny endeavor) is that it requires massive amounts of teamwork. It provides, upon beating Atheon, a sense of reward and togetherness that no other part of the game currently gives you as a player. I feel as though the team at Bungie would like to bring this experience to the wider majority of the game, but is confused as to how to do so, or is otherwise very conflicted as to how to go about doing so. I want to assure you that doing this would be exceptionally easy, and would make Destiny the game you want it to be and the game that we, the players, want it to be. My suggestions operate on the assumption that most Destiny players care about the notion of fighting for humanity. It is the premise of the entire game, the reason anyone who enjoys PvE wanted to become a Guardian in the first place. With that in mind, Bungie needs to begin addressing the issue of feeling alone in the game by giving players a shared experience outside of the raid. Sure, if you have enough friends with the game, you can link up a fireteam and do some of the same 4 strikes (now a staggering 5 strikes for only $19.99 on Xbox) you've done 5,000 times over, but the only emotional appeal to this is that you're doing something with your friends for a while, until you get bored, and let me assure you, killing the Archon Priest for the zillionth time is boring - boring enough that the friends I used to play with have quit the game. I feel that many can relate to this situation. In order to make your players feel something deeper and continue to invest in Destiny, we need to be able to actually fight for the very survival of humanity. Other people have left comments regarding this, and I'm mirroring their ideas and sentiments and not claiming them as my own, though I've had the very same thoughts as them for some time now. Bungie needs to actually put humanity on the brink. As Guardians, we need to be able to get an alert from The Tower while we're out collecting Spinmetal that The City is under a massive attack by The Fallen. We need to be able to see all the players around us disappear, heading to orbit just like we are, mashing our controllers to take us all back to defend The City. Upon arriving, we need to see droves upon droves of enemies marching to the walls, and have a way to get out in front of the walls to fight them in the plains before they reach the gates (troop transport ships on a loop that fly you over the city and drop you into battle, anyone?). We need to see dozens of other Guardians fighting tooth and nail to defend the last bastion of humanity alongside us, and we need this on at least a weekly basis. These kind of encounters can play out all over the solar system, and last a day at a time, giving many players the chance to enter the fight. Ground must be gained and lost, territories threatened, The City seen teetering on a precipice before you and your fellow Guardians prevail (or don't, which leads to many other, ridiculously interesting options for the game, and opportunities to fight for what is lost). Again, I don't claim such ideas and sentiments as my own, but I wanted to articulate them here in the hopes that someone with a voice inside Bungie HQ might raise these ideas that I very much believe thousands of players yearn for. If ideas like this were baked into the game, this crippling sense of solitude that one often feels while playing would effectively disappear, because we'd all be fighting for something together - something tangible, that we could see and feel and believe in. While you, Bungie, continue to release patches nerfing hard-earned exotic weapons, killing loot caves, restructuring the raid to prevent players from beating it with human ingenuity, and announcing DLC content that is quite honestly very lackluster and addresses none of the deep, even psychological ineptitudes within the Destiny universe, I assure you that even if the current numbers say otherwise, you are not building a 10 year franchise. Or a 5 year franchise. I'll be curious to know what those numbers reveal once other games are released through the holiday season. Somehow, I don't think they'll be very promising. Not considering what you gave us at launch, and how little you continue to give us. Destiny was a promise of something incredible that never was and still isn't. It could still become that, but my hope is waning, and that's a real shame, because this world you made for us, this repetitive, empty world - it's very pretty. Thanks for your time. I hope I get the chance to thank you for your efforts in the future.

  • Ok you're complaining about the raid, I just looked at your profile to see your characters, a level 22 and a level 25... you never tried the raid and you're complaining about it... So everything else you're saying now sound like bullshit. You're complaining about being alone but have you ever added some guardians you just as friend ? or look into a forum, like the hidden forum of bungie (just a lick on the left menu of this current website) you'll find plenty of people willing to play with you. You seem to speak English perfectly (I don't) but still can't find a way to play with other people.. hum.. I made friends all over the world with Destiny, I never made so many friends in a single game.. About PVP, "experiencing what the Crucible has to offer" your characters have 0.49 kill/death ratio and the other 0.34 kill/death.. so ok you are really bad at it and for sure you wont like it but think that is a big part of the game for some other people and some other people do really enjoy it. Now I look at your equipment and I'm sorry but you have nothing... You have no idea about what Destiny can offer you. You bought an exotic weapon last week like everyone, you're still using a rare sinper and have rare boots... Anyway when people suck at understanding how the game works, all they find smart to do is to complain.. Instead of wondering why they can't achieve anything.. Anyway (again) I'm pissed to have read a so long message for "nothing".. But still if you want some advice to make you feel happy about destiny like me and my friends are, send me a message, ill be nice this time.

  • I'm level 30 and we've done the raid in 45 minutes on hard mode so I feel I'm qualified to respond to your thread, if you think the OP isn't. Just unlocked the fate ringer (which was the reason I was still playing) and now that I have it, I have no purpose and am not really compelled to play. Why are we 'fighting back the darkness' yet we play the same missions over and over, yet never any changes to the maps. You would think after I'd just cleared earth, Mars, the moon etc. there would not be any aliens there the next time I returned? And why are there no cities? No population density? The story hints that these planets and moons are populated by said species, yet they just stand around waiting for a guarding to fly through on their sparrow. It's not that I don't love certain aspects of the game. It's just, it does feel quite empty. I get a good feeling out it socially from talking shit with the lads while we play. But the game itself doesn't really provide this as much as it really could. I think destiny is the best canvas I've ever experienced. Gunplay, movement, enemies, they are awesome! They just need to engage us into the world more.

  • You completed the raid 12 times in total (no ideas why you are wearing rare stuff :p but that's none of my concerns). And if you did in hard mode (let's say you pushed Atheon) in 45 mins so yeah ! Respect ! I can't do it for now. :D (And love my fatebringer too) And ok I agree on all what you said. :) they could work on that.

  • All my gear is in the vault brother... I'm quite surprised you would even bring that up. We raided with 5 Lvl 30s and a 29. Did it last night. No cheesing. Random teleports etc. We just had a really good crew. It was fun man. Did it again with my alt with another crew shortly after in about an hour If you have a good crew you should only need two teleports to finish Atheon legit. Anyways... Only reason I bought all that up was in reply to the other dudes comment saying the OP was unqualified to comment on the game as he hadn't finished top tier Pve. I was just trying to defend hom

  • Nice counter-argument, you certainly did you homework. But, your both right. Sure he has only experienced Destiny to an extent, but he seems to have ascertained the problems that he may or may not have discovered as of now.

  • What do you mean what destiny has to offer, right now Destiny has a heaping helping of nothing to offer. One month on and I was bored only reason I show up for the night fall and weekly Heroic and most times they aren't worth it, other than that it has nothing so go ahead and do you little research on me and tell me something I already know, I have taken part in every event in this game more than once and to be fair after a certain amount of time it gets boring and at other times doing some of the things you can do in that game ain't worth it and while I was waiting for the DLC now I see that for 20.00 of whatever currency you have you can have a few extra missions, a few new weapons, a few new maps and a new raid and oh yeah two new strikes that will get real old real fast, Bungie doesn't realize the hype is gone and they would have to pull something incredibly amazing out of their bla bla's to make players want to play again, My friend here made a great point and Destiny needs a huge update if Bungie want it to survive and let me explain one more thing a level cap raise of 2, let me get my wallet right now and thrown my money in a shredder because that would be the equivalent. now lets take a look at more prominent facts they released both an Alpha and a Beta and in the first 8 hours of playing everybody I know was already Level 8 and in the first week of the full game being released Level 20 about a month down the line I am just about 30 and you want to know why I haven't made 30, it because of the terrible loot System Bungie have put into their game, they are using a random number generator and for a game with a little loot as this specific game they need a better system, they boasted about the volume of weapons in the game and we have yet to see any of that because most of the guns in the game are the same weapons just re-skinned and given a different rarity same for armor too with the only thing changing is the upgrades and oh yeah lets talk about that, the upgrades which Bungie called customization saying you can do to your weapon what you want but lets face it nobody can do anything but buy an upgrade and some of those are the most pointless upgrades I have ever seen given to a weapon so yeah you go back and look back over Destiny instead of somebodies Legend and then you can talk to me because Bungie did no MMO nor did they do any RPG research before making this game.

  • I agree with you bro but maybe this goes deeper then just bungie. Isnt activition over destiny? And the game that grossed the most money; Call of duty? Maybe bungie want to do all these cool things but activition wont allow it. Im not saying this is what happening but rather bringing up a point that could be happening

  • Bump, I love this, and what's worse is that they are messing with xbox players, who loved their halo games, that were only on xbox and are going towards p3 and ps4, wtf, why should they get the first DLC before xbox, when there are tons of us, including me who paid $35 at gamestop for both DLC's and now I can't even get the first DLC? so what will I get for wasting my money, nothing
