Seems like mic use is pretty rare in Destiny

I've only met one other player that actively used his mic while playing. Is Destiny just full of strong silent types? Or is it bad manners to use a mic anymore? <_> I'm so used to other games and mic spam. It almost feels like in-game, outside of forum-based clans/groups and existing friends , we have a rather...antisocial community. It makes me shy to ever reach out to strangers. I don't want to be a pain in the arse, haha. How about you folks? What are your thoughts on mic use in Destiny?

  • I'm a solo player. By that I mean thus is my first game ever with a social aspect. I do own a mic, it came with a controller set, but I don't know how to use it. It'd feel weird to have a mic in my ear on the off chance I'm on a fireteam or something, I wear glasses and it'd be uncomfortable. Now if from the start everytime you were teamed with someone, for strikes or crucible or whatever, or everytime you did something co-op in game like a public event, voice chat was there I'd probably use it. It'd be useful to be able to say 'I'm hanging back from the walker, trying to get 9000 xp without dying' or ask 'I'm doing bounty x, anyone else?' In crucible. But I think only people who use mics are those coming into destiny with friends already.
