Hmm, maybe. What happens if your team dies, do you just restart at the last checkpoint or all the way at the beginning? Maybe I could just start popping in casually with people from Destiny LFG.com, as you have a chances for loot even if you don't reach Athena, right? This might enable me to treat it like a strike...
Does this sound doable? Am I missing something?

If the whole team wipes you go back to the last check point. Don't remember how many there are. And whoever the checkpoint is determined by the fire team leader. So you could conceivably go through with various groups so long as you made it through each checkpoint. The only problem occurs when you get to the harder fights that could take up to an hour or more.
