Assuming all of these are true, then I will probably never do the VOG. By the time I get to a place in my life where I can say "for the next 5 hours I definitely have time and will not suddenly find out that I don't have time" the VOG will be long gone. I've frequently had to just say "gotta go guys" and leave my titan standing in the corner behind cover because I suddenly had to leave RIGHT THEN. If I wait for my life to change before I play, well, then I just won't play.
What do you guys think, should I just stop caring about the VOG, as it'd be cruel to my team to even attempt it?
Edit: I'm on PS3

It's not 5 hours if your leader knows what he is doing, you can probably get through in about 3.
-
yeah, but if I wanted to break it up into multiple playtimes like the poster below suggested, I'd have to be the leader.
-
No. Be leader of the raid and chip away at it over the course of the week.
-
Hmm, maybe. What happens if your team dies, do you just restart at the last checkpoint or all the way at the beginning? Maybe I could just start popping in casually with people from Destiny LFG.com, as you have a chances for loot even if you don't reach Athena, right? This might enable me to treat it like a strike... Does this sound doable? Am I missing something?

If the whole team wipes you go back to the last check point. Don't remember how many there are. And whoever the checkpoint is determined by the fire team leader. So you could conceivably go through with various groups so long as you made it through each checkpoint. The only problem occurs when you get to the harder fights that could take up to an hour or more.

Everyone has a day off lol

I understand that there are real life issues that pop up, and it's not unreasonable to request a group break on the raid. I've done it lots of times. Chances are the others in the group will have to grab a drink or go to the bathroom.
-
I wish it was grab a drink or go bathroom, it's usually comfort a 4 month old crying lil baby girl. Kidscome1st

I hear you bud, I have a young family, I can't plan that far ahead when I will get the time to allocate a few hours to destiny. Too much of this game alienates me. I joined a clan and left as I got no approaches in the 2 weeks I was a member. I am a lowly level 24 Titan, I can't get together a fireteam but have tried weekly heroics solo, without success. I have obtained 12 strange coins total since release date. This game isn't for casuals

Oldschool702 has a spot for guys with family we all understand the kids thing my g\t is drakenvoss if you are on ps4 hit me up
-
I added you on xbox one. I solo weekly heroics and nightfall so I can bring you along (once we get you to lvl 25). Getting to lvl 25 won't be hard we will run you through strikes and get your reputation up and marks up to purchase some purples.

VoG only takes 2 hours max and you can so it through out the week.
-
Should you give up on VOG? No. But is the above true? Yes. VoG isn't for the person who only has an hour to play. The emotional satisfaction of getting a team to work together for 2-3 hours to accomplish the challenge is a primary incentive to complete VoG. You should at least be up front with your teammates about your time limits. I've done the VoG with multiple teammates swapped before. It does become inconsiderate of other people's time investment if you are up front and plan for time management. If you truly have such an unruly life that you can't control your own schedule for 2-3 hours then you may need to consider 1. Not placing yourself in a team event that your going to surprise quit in; or 2. Use the forums and grab some friends that understand your limitations and will work with it. I've used the forums for group finding enough to know you can find someone that will work without temporarily detailing another group that didn't realize you only had 30 minutes to play.

If on 360 and want to raid then hit me up InfamousPewPew. Our raid team can do hard in an hour
-
More like 3 hours if you can get some good people together not necessarily friends. Use the forum, had a group help me through my first run in about 3 hours second time took me and some buds an hour and a half on normal.
-
Lol now there are enough people who have done it... I really hope it doesn't take people 3 hours anymore
-
If you are on Xbox one hit me up: carefree liama I am a father of 3 and have real life issues that cause me to walk away for a moment or sometimes quit early... The best part is my group understands and we all respect each others responsibilities. I am the fireteam leader and we beat it every week at least 3 times and under 1 hr each time. Yesterday we carried a high lvl 25 who didn't do squat... So I am sure we can take you along :)

I'm on PS3 :/

I would appreciate an add gamer tag same as name

There are progressive save points that reset on Tuesday's like everything else. Assuming you could get to the checkpoints, you could play it over the span of a week if you have to.
-
Only if I'm the fire team leader, right?
-
Pretty sure you don't even have to be.
