Dear Guardian, This Is Why You SHOULD NOT be Raiding.

Dear Guardian, As much as I like to help and encourage people I must stress a few reasons why you SHOULD NOT be taking part in a Raid on The Vault Of Glass. 1. You are below Rank 27. The lower your Rank, the less damage you can do. And I mean waayyyy less! At Rank 25 you are looking at a 43% reduction in damage output! 2. No Mic. You refuse to use your mic or you don't have one or people in your house are sleeping. For whatever reason, you are not on your mic. Communication is absolutely 100% critical in the VoG. Sometimes you even need to back out into Orbit to fully discuss and strategize. Impossible if you are not using your mic. 3. Party Chat. Even worse than not having a mic is not joining (or leaving) a Party Chat. The game volume is less loud when you are in a Party Chat , as opposed to in game chat, so its easier to communicate without everyone raising their voices over gun fights (i.e. the Destiny chat). If you are in the in game chat and we are in Party Chat then we can't hear you and you can't hear us! 4. Leadership Only one or two people should be giving out orders and instructions during critical moments and battles. Nobody else should speak over them except to call out things that change the game i.e. Relic, teleports, oracles, strong enemies, health, hazards, situation report, countdown (time's vengeance) etc. 5. Its not a Strike. People often start playing the VoG and within an hour they are saying that they have to leave for work or to sleep or eat or whatever else. Please don't start playing if you haven't got the time to spare. This isn't going to be done quickly unless YOU and YOUR WHOLE TEAM absolutely know what they are doing in the VoG. Every time someone leaves, that person has to be replaced. The new person has to be 'worked in' and that can take a while. If someone else leaves 30mins later and the pattern continues then you can see how things can drag out. Yes, we have a week to complete the VoG and there are checkpoints but that is besides the point. Think about how you are affecting the team. Don't just join to get that one chest and then leave. 6. Weapons, Supers, Builds & Perks Use what will benefit you and your team. This isn't the time to be using a weapon just because you like the look or sound of it. This isn't the time to be doing your bounties. This isn't where you level up your character. You are facing the Vex. They use purple shields. You need weapons and builds that maximise Void damage to break these shields. You need Titans who are using Defender. Hunters should be using Invisibility in the Gorgon's Labyrinth and Golden Gun during Boss fights and for Oracles. Warlocks can go either way. Customise your perks so that they help you and your team to get through. Don't be lazy. Don't be selfish. 7. Be patient with people. Not everyone knows the ins and outs of the VoG. Everyone on the team should be welcoming to someone who is new to it and take the time to explain things before and as they happen. Don't just kick someone because they got it wrong 5 times in a row. People won't begin to get better until they fully understand what is happening. There are different reasons why the whole team gets wiped. Explain them fully. If things are not going well its a good idea for everyone to regroup in Orbit, ask how everyone is feeling, try to give encouragement and keep morale up. Talk about where things are going well and where things need work. Restock on ammo at the Tower and maybe take a real life break for 5 mins before getting back into it. 8. But I was invited... Thats fine. If you find yourself in a fireteam of 6 and on route to Venus and you know that you haven't got time or that you are not ready, then please politely let the others know ASAP. That way you can get going to what you really want to do and the rest of the team can start looking for a replacement without anybody having their time wasted. You are helping the team out more by giving notice to leave right at the start. We've all been there. One minute you are doing your own thing then you get an invite to do something that you would rather not do at that time. Summary If you are unwilling to follow this advice then you are severely hindering your team's progression within the VoG. Please do the right thing and don't play unless you are willing to do your best to help everyone to get through it. I am writing this out of love. So that we can all benefit. Regards, A Thorny Guardian P.S. If you can think of more reasons why people shouldn't raid just yet, please say below but be constructive. Thanks in advance!

  • Lvl 26 is fine. 25 is also okay with a good fireteam.

  • Honestly, the Golden Gun should be used for low level enemies just to generate orbs of light for teammates, since a primary weapon can easily out-damage the Golden Gun on bosses. (Just my opinion though.)

          •
Hunters should be using Invisibility in the Gorgon's Labyrinth
Except that there's a path you can take with absolutely zero chance of being seen even if everyone sprints the whole time so putting on invisibility is completely pointless and a waste of time.

            • Why do hunters need to use invis during gorgons? It's useless unless you plan on being at a place where they will see you... I get through fine without them seeing me and I don't have to switch to blade dancer

            • I agree with everything except mics. A player or two without mics that listen to instructions are fine on NORMAL not on HARD.

You are making the raid out to be much harder than it is. All people need to know is, listen to the experienced players, seriously, listen to them. If they tell you to just hang back and play support for a while, do it. Just watch how they do things, that's the best way to learn. And, don't overestimate yourself, play it safe. That 30 second revive timer is a killer.

              • Lololololol I completed a raid without a mic, having never done it before, I about 2 or 3 hours. I was by far, not the weak link if the team. Mics are totally not necessary and people are -blam!-ing stupid for thinking they are

The "No Mic" one is debatable. I have completed the VoG 7 or 8 times now, and never with a mic. I don't have a regular team, every time I've done it, it's been with a random group from this forum or Destiny LFG. That being said, it does require a lot of focus, patience, listening, and above all STUDYING to get right. Make sure you're reading up on EXACTLY what you should be doing in the Raid, no matter what. And always listen to the leader, they'll order you around and you need to follow INSTANTLY. If you don't not only will things go south for the team, but you'll start to get called out for it, and that's never fun. On top of this, skill plays a huge part. Some people simply are not as good at this game in comparison to others. Humbly judge your skill level, and if you think you're not capable of holding your own area in the Raid (whether it be the Sync Plates, or one of the Templar Conflux sides, or ESPECIALLY the Supplicants/Relics), make sure you have a mic.

                • I love how people require 28+ now on a lot of normal mode matches.. I have done VoG 5 times now and have yet to get any raid gear besides weapons or shaders.

                • You mentioned lvl 25, but it specifically says 26, which is below 27, yet its supposed to be played at 26 and up, not 27 and up.

                  • Mic thing is bullshit... I've done the vault over ten times and as long as they can hear me I don't need them to have a mic (note: my quickest run had someone without a mic in the game). I have gotten a 25 to atheon before so while it's not ideal, it's entirely possible. Also, I am always in a party chat with the people I play with, so a lot of your points are pointless

                  • i couldnt agree more....i was on VOG for 7 fkn hours one day as ppl would join and hour into it they would have to leave and it would take us time to find another player then get him into his spot he is comfortable with and into a rhythm..this repeated multiple times until a 2-4 hour VOG map took 7 hours.....since that tme i have not played or even tried to set up a VOG run as i want ppl that are more reliable.. great post and so true on all counts

                  • I agree with all of this. I have only been in VoG twice and have yet to complete it because of rule #1. Why level 25 ' s think they can effectively contribute is beyond me. Hopefully I find a higher lvl group before weeks end and get Antheon down.

                  • This is rather good advice for those new to the VoG or raiding in general. However, I feel the title may come across as a bit too hostile, another list of complaints about the "noobs". This is unfortunate as it may turn off those who could actually benefit from the tips. Maybe a title along the lines of "Advice for VoG First-Timers" would be more welcoming? I'm not nit-picking here. I just think that overall your post is a concise, straight-forward survey of raiding "best practices", and I would hate for it to get lost in the clutter. Anyways, +1 for taking the time to explain why you feel each rule is important. And +1 for generosity.

I personally use my hunters invisibility to run out on the battlefield and revive teammates. The gorgon thing is just a bonus lol. As for warlocks I would say go with nova bomb subclass as it is chock full of little void goodies for your vex friends
