I've heard this either directly or by implication. People at my high school (athletes to socially awkward individuals) have expressed these sentiments. Perhaps your experience has differed, and I can't really comment on that. Edit: Internet hyperbole aside, the patterns I've observed suggest that higher promiscuity is evaluated differently based on gender.
