So here is my thought.
Since there is NO form of clan communication in game, other than when you are in a fire-team, how about using the postmaster as a working post office?
The image is a graphic I created in order to show a mock-up of the idea.
If a clan member wanted to put out a message to the ENTIRE clan, just a few members, or just those on your friends list, they could just ...
• go to the Postmaster
• create a message
• select the recipients from a list type
<><><> • Friends List
<><><> • Clan Members
<><><> • or just choose ALL
• select the appropriate icon for the topic of the discussion
• and hit SEND
• the postmaster delivers the message
When the player/clan member comes to the tower and checks in with the Postmaster, they could review their message(s).
We are all aware how it is done now.
Option 1)
• Go to the FORUMS area for your clan
• Create a post
• Pray the the members actually READ it
• Hope they respond
Option 2)
• Try to contact them in game via fire team (extraordinarily difficult for a large clan)
• Beat head in to wall after being unable to reach more then 2-5 people at any given point in the day.
• Repeat
Also ... the PS3 only allows for 100 in your friends list so using the built-in messaging system could be problematic.
Here is why ...
• Say you are Praiano from Gran Turismo fame. (He does car tunes like nobody's business. )
• Because of that, his friends list is maxed.
• Now, say he buys Destiny and joins a clan.
• He can not use his PS3 message system to contact them because his friends list is full of GT players.
• That is why it needs to be in-game.
Guardians ... what say you!?

I've always found it really confusing that Bungie promoted this as an MMO enhanced shooter, but then left out every social aspect of an MMO. For those of us not in an active clan, it's next to impossible to get a Vault of Glass or Nightfall team. In any other MMO, we'd just go to a social area and pop a general message stating what we want to do and we'd get a team in no time. In Destiny, I've got to individually message anyone of the adequate level one at a time using PSN and wait for a response, if I even get one.
