Story wise? Well, it sounds like a grave threat is upon the galaxy. The Flood perhaps? Something else? One of the Achievements for the MCC is called "The Guardians Are Coming". It sounds rather ominous. And given Halo 5's subtitle, I think whatever the Guardians are might be the enemy.

Yeah, I always thought of the Guardians as allies, but that sounds like a good theory.
