My policy, at this point, is to shoot ahead if the other 2 do also. I understand why people do so as it is tough to get in 25 strikes.
But the few times I get to fight the waves, I manage to get some blue engrams, which are useful for upgrading the cryptarch.
What is bugging me are folks who abandon strikes.
Mind you: your ghost does say at some point in the story, "if you want to get in the middle of this, it's up to you." That is the 1st clue these skirmishes are optional.

The point drop the op is viable in the 24 strikes. You want to rush through to get the end reward? Instanced part or not, purple Engrams in strikes drop moooore from all enemies compared to the strike reward. 12 strikes. 3 purple engrams. 2 from enemies 1 at end reward.

The OP makes a fair point. I do not want to rush through. I want the drops. I understand 2 basic points: 1) Bungie has incentivized this behavior via bounties such as one requiring 25 strikes. 2) The game design allows players to move forward without engaging enemies that are often fighting each other. This isn't about right and wrong. It is about play mechanics and incentivized behavior. Read my post closely and see that I agree with the OP sentiment. I just understand why the problem exists and have my own way to deal with it. Your mileage may vary.
