The relevance is Guild Wars 2 is a thriving MMORPG that has a one time fee of $60 (buying the disk) and the rest of the content is 100% free. New content and special events come around about once a month and the game is an ever expanding monster. All of this is thanks to the fact that micro-transactions fund the game and it's ongoing development. Micro-transactions don't have to mean pay to win. Most of the MTs in Guild Wars pertain to buying exclusive armor models (no special stats) or buying unlimited use tools. While one could convert money into in game gold, the inflation in the economy makes this awfully expensive, and even then, everything you can buy with that gold holds the same stats as any other weapon/item of its rarity.
tl;dr-
Micro-Transactions are good so long as they don't create a pay to win environment bc -blam!- paid DLC.
