Evidence of "Dark Traveler Theory" - Is the Traveler evil?

The Traveler supposedly saved our worlds, sacrificed itself only for our benefit. But is this really the truth? Do we have any infallible evidence to prove this? We, at Binary Star Cult, do have a theory. We believe the Traveler may not be as "holy" as it is made out to be. It may have acted only in selfish reasons, or even in malicious ones. It could have brought the Darkness to our doorstep intentionally, or it could even BE the Darkness. However, you may ask yourself, how can this theory be any more correct than the one that states the goodness of the Traveler? The answer is: we have evidence. Or at least, we will. This is why this thread is being posted, to find, collect, and analyze the evidence of this theory. I will start it off with a piece of evidence below, from a ghost fragment. This thread is public. Anyone can put their facts or suspicions here. Don't be afraid to speak your mind. The smallest detail you may have could be the key to this entire theory. Although we firmly believe in this theory, we do not want to be blind like some of the followers of the Traveler. If you have any piece of evidence against this theory, if you still believe the Traveler is pure, please, tell us. If we cannot challenge and refute your hypotheses, then how valid are ours? Nevertheless, as promised, here is a bit of confirmation for the theory. Source: Ghost Fragment: The Traveler 2 This Grimoire card is a brief passage from "Dreams of Alpha Lupi." It says:
"This has been such a long chase. This will be the place you will fight. Fight and win. But do you really know why you go where you go, and where this journey is taking you? The chase leads you where you need to be, you believe. Unless...you are being pushed."
The final line is the key to this evidence. It questions the whole nature of our quest to revive the Traveler. It is not a particularly strong piece of evidence, but we will find more. We will find out the truth about the Traveler. We will find out if I will ever stop speaking like some kind of holy priest giving a sermon. Please, contribute to this theory, not to support any faction or cult, but to support every player of Destiny by discovering the truth.

  • Sorry but I think that's just fluff to send you on a wild goose chase. At this point, it would be weak storytelling to go that route after feeding the masses who want everything to be "You were evil the whole time!" plot twist. It's not really a twist when everyone expect it. Hell it's so common that NOT going that route would be the true twist after sending everyone down that path. A double bluff wouldn't worth ether. It's too obvious.

    • Staten's original story had the Traveller as the enemy. There's a reason we never go to the Last City. They know. We don't.

      • i dont usually post on forums about lore of a game and with the story being so full of holes and loose ends. But my opinion is the traveler is the evil of the universe and maybe we are fighting on the wrong side....

        • Not really solid evidence but I did notice that a lot of the objectives from your ghost have some pretty evil sounding wording like "slaughter the fallen" or "exterminate the hive"

I BLEW YO MIND YESTERDAY with the hive names but this time i have possibly the greatest thing yet. The speaker is a Exo. If you glitch your camera into his head you can see the back of his head. It's a Exo head. BUM BUM BUUUUM did the traveler make him like a ghost to tell us fake tells of greatness?

                  • There's a Hunter helm called the Achlyophage Simbiote(?) that has a description of "They said it would consume my thoughts and leave me full of Light" or something. That's sounds a bit evil to me.

                    • I believe the traveler is the AI Rasputin, who traveled back in time from a million years from now to try to save the humanity that created him. He is not evil, but was created for war but changed his own programming to save us after having million of years to think about it.

                    • Xûr- "Your Traveler has a dark mirror." That and with some of the Grimoire Cards, I myself am wary of what the Traveler was, is now, and what it may do in the future.

                    • More evidence that the Traveler may not be what it seems... "The Ghost said to me: You are a dead thing made by a dead power in the shape of the dead. All you will ever do is kill. You do not belong here. This is a place of life. The Traveler is life, I said. You are a creature of Darkness. You seek to deceive me. But I looked behind me, down the long slope where the blossoms tumbled in the warm wind and the great trees wept sap like blood or wine, and I felt doubt." - Grimoire Card (Legend: The Black Forest)

                        • I wonder, what if bungie is trying to break away from the associations of light and dark? Generally light is seen as a good thing that gives hope, and dark as substantially evil and fearful. If the Traveller were to turn out evil, what if the light is evil, and the dark is good? After our guardian is revived from the dead, what if we just automatically assume that light=good and we have our associations entirely backwards due to human connotations?

                          • The Traveler could be killing it's enemies ("The Darkness") by reviving their dead bodies, then turning them into it's own henchmen (us) and repurposing them, making them kill their own people. That way we'd still technically be the good guys, only we're under the illusion and control of the Traveler atm. Now that would be a cool little twist.
