The ark signifies Noah's ark as it was contained in slipstream space and thus unaffected by the rings activation. It was a safe house. Full of DNA and such of every animal and creature to repopulate the universe with. The flood species is a representation of the flood that wiped all life from the planet in Noah's time in the bible.
