So yeah this whole Zoe quinn thing has gotten pretty big.
Anyone have an opinion on this and gaming journalists in general?

I heard someone say, and I'm paraphrasing, "journalism is writing stuff that pisses someone off, everything else is public relations." These people aren't journalists. They are part of a public relations industry. She worked with what she had, but she was a dumbass about it.

This is a good thing, you should ALWAYS be critical of what a journalist is telling you, to paraphrase one of the comments on that video, it sucks that the most trustworthy site in gaming is now IGN... And even they didn't comment on GamerGate. FYI, I'm a Public Relations student, if you think I'm exaggerating then let me ask you a question: What do you think the first thing you're taught in a PR course is? I'll save you time, it's learning how to write Press Releases, the press have always got their balls in a vice by the industry they're reporting on, always take things with mountains of salt.

Gaming journalism and journalism in general has been going down the shitter for a while but I doubt this will change things because at this point this whole thing is two idiots yelling at each other as loud as they can while any reasonable person's remarks are drowned by their stupidity or attacked by both sides. Whether or not this whole controversy leads to something actually happening remains to be seen.

1 ReplyThat sucks that an entire industry of reporting about the subject of games is so defensive on this issue. You'd think, since this is such a huge gaming story, that somebody would come out and both report on it, and then present all the details. Instead, as that article reports, the gaming journalism industry is simply attacking the only demographic it appeals to. What do they think will happen to them if they destroy their own consumer foundation? Who in the Hell do they think will read their shit? This whole scandal is retarded. The journalists can't expect to maintain their jobs if they turn on the very people who read their material.
