I heard you can earn it through normal gameplay it's just early access so people that earn it will be noobs?

You can earn it through regular gameplay. All jokes aside, it's your Guardian, you do what you want to do with him/her. Even though I'm pretty sure there will be much cooler looking shaders out there.
