During this interview, at approximately 1 Hour and 15 minutes in, DeeJ makes it sound like we will not have the ability to make custom games for Destiny (at least at launch).
I have to say, this is a huge disappointment for me and this is probably my new 2nd biggest gripe with the game. I was looking forward to playing ridiculous private games with you guys :-/ I was also looking forward to taking on other clans in some PvP action. It brings up the issue of competitive gaming too, like the MLG bracket. I don't really see how they can have their competitive bracket without private game modes.
But we can at least take comfort in that they could and likely would add it in after launch. Still very disappointing though.
Edit: There will also be a buff for pulse rifles and hand cannons, because Bungie noticed from the beta data that they were underpowered.

Bungie makes me sad

I wouldn't write off the pvp as just some sort of extra. I personally expect it to be something taken very seriously by many clans. It reminds me of WoW arena pvp, sure you could play the whole game by yourself and some friends to clear raids and such, but there are people who do nothing but play pvp. In destiny i believe the same will be possible mainly because of the gear you can by from earning tokens in the crucible. The idea of not having private matches is pretty crazy, i can understand maybe they dont want people farming each other, but that a simple fix, award no exp or items. They could even create pvp events in tournament style, each clan that wants to participate picks six to represent them and it goes from there.

I support this and I've been supporting since day one!

That's not going to change anything. Auto Rifles will still be the most used weapon.

I never expected private in a game like this and in my mind it doesn't fit… but don't get me wrong id love clan wars and stuff so I would love them! That said id love them, but I don't see how they'd fit or expect it to happen!

34:10 watch Hitman try and kill someone then watch his reaction after he dies. Awesome and completely appropriate.

But I do agree ... Private matches should be a thing

Destiny PvP was never intended to be, and never will be, a MLG level competitive multiplayer shooter. And that's just fine. It's obvious by looking at the game it's built with coop gaming in mind and PvP has been added for fun. And that's just fine for me too :) Maybe by Destiny 2 they will put some more work /thought into PvP MLG. But I really hope they don't screw up the campaign in the attempt.
