As their lifestyle choices (unprotected sexual contact, sharing needles) are sited as the reason for the spread. Also typically most diseases start in animals and a mutation causes the initials jump to humans.

Std means it has to be sexually transferred or at least that the most common of the pathogen that it use while there are other ways like blood transferring from someone that has to someone who doesn't so the std can still be called that even if it's origins derive from a chimp
