Old Schoolers Unite!

Okay, I used to be really into "Halo: Combat Evolved" in 2001! Played that game forever with my friends and it always held a little nostalgia in my heart when it comes to Bungie. Then "Halo 2" came out... Multiplier was flawless. Seriously, that game is still unmatched in my opinion. Damage Ratios were so balanced and it seemed like you were able to relax and still be on the edge of you seat the entire game! Since then, I really didn't get into Bungie games like I used to. I mean, they were good. But, I think my everyday life changed and maybe the gaming styles in the industry changed. Anyway, I've been a very causal gamer since about 2004. I'll play and talk about Video Games with my younger Cousins and Brother every now and again. But, I can tell their experiences are totally abstract to mine. It's kinda funny how I'm looked at as a "Old Schooler" compared to them. While playing Halo 4 with them and talking more about games, they brought up "Destiny" in the conversation! Showed me some videos, told me more about the vision for the game... I felt that nostalgia again! That good old Bungie nostalgia! I'm just as excited for the release/beta of this game as they are! Hopefully other people experience the same feeling I'm having. Because, I really do hope that Gamers of all generations will be able to close the gap in gaming styles. I'd like to hear the rest of the community. What do you guys think? Also, What do you think a "Old Schooler" technically is? It seems video games change so fast that it makes new generations happen every other year!

  • I was a senior in high school when Halo: CE came out. I had Xbox for a little while before getting Halo. I bought Elder Scrolls: Morrowind with the system. All day my buddy would talk about Halo. So one day we cut school after lunch and headed to his place. We sat there for hours playing the campaign on his 65" projection TV. I was hooked. On the drive back to my house I bought Halo: CE. We use to have death matches in my basement. Everyone would start the "you're looking at my screen!" argument... So I rigged up some cardboard to the tv. 1v1 on Sidewinder was usually the game. When Halo 2 came out, everything changed. We took that ragtag squad online and gave em hell. At the time I was dating this beautiful girl. Her brother was 32 and a total dick. One night, we walked into her house and he had 3 friends over playing Halo 2. I sat down next to his boy, turned to Jeff and said 1v1 any map. The shit talking didn't stop until it was 10-1, me. I put the controller down at 25-3 and walked away. Felt good. Now, I'm 30, still visiting Reach when I have time. I'm excited to have a fresh Bungie game to enjoy again. A few things shocked me a little. Marty getting canned, the short beta for xbox, etc. But, with that, I can't help but have that grin on my face. 3 out of 4 of us old time friends from Halo: CE still grab beers and hang out. Perfect for a fireteam. See you all starside.
