Ideas for ranking systems in Crucible

I sit back and ask myself, where the hell did true competitive multiplayer go. I remember Halo 2 and Halo 3 and think why can't other companies manage such a simple yet effective ranking system like these games. Bungie has always had the top of the line Ranked multiplayer and I hope to see that shine in Destiny. Below are just some thoughts and ideas on what could truly put the competitive nature back into matchmaking. Let me first start with the Crucible. I believe there should be both Ranked and Unranked playlists just like in previous Bungie titles. I also hope to see the return of personal ranks. I miss gaining xp toward a new military rank just by playing matchmaking either ranked or unranked. Based on how well I do determines the xp I gain per game, ie If I get 20 kills 5 deaths and 15 assists I get more personal xp than someone who goes 10 kills 12 deaths and 2 assists. Now on to the good stuff :) Ranked multiplayer Let's take a look at two different styles to determine rank in the world. Both similar but slightly different. 1-50 ranking system famous from Halo 2 and 3. Xp earned is based on a team effort not individual, meaning wins and losses based on the team you are matched against. Examples: My team is higher rated than other team we get less xp for a win but lose more xp for a loss. My team is equal to the team we are playing so we recieve a moderate xp boost for a win and a moderate xp boost for a loss. My team is lower rated than other team so we recieve more xp for a win and less xp for a loss. In my opinion this is a very basic and simple rating system but the problem lies in the level 50 ranking cap, which after hit seems pointless to continue. Now lets take a look at an alternative. Number based rating system seen in Halo: Reach but slightly modified for a true ranking experience. Instead of basing your base ranking on your first three games of a week and fluctuating it depending on wins, losses, and performance lets simplify it. First take out the performance stat. This is a team based thing except in rumble pit and 1v1 but performance rating is not needed there either. Wins and losses are all that matter and that is the most important thing to note first in competitive gaming. No one cares if I go 40 kills 5 deaths and still lose. they only see that loss on your record. Yes they might recognize your talent but in the end you still lost and in Ranked gameplay the wins are what count. Anyways back on track with how this system would work which is very similar to the 1-50 ranking system but with numbers. Wins against a better team= 20 points, Loss against a better team= -5 points Wins against and equal team= 10 points, Loss against an equal team= -10 points Wins against a weaker team= 5 points, Loss against a weaker team= -20 points A very simple but effective system. If teams are within a certain amount of points they are equal and if above or below said line better or worse. The best part about it is there is no cap for your rank. It can keep going up or down. If you feel it can get to high than do this in seasons. Each season is a month and then it resets for the second season with x amount of high ranked teams earning a weapon or something. Or everyone gets a prize at the end of the season and the value and worth of the prize is determined by how you do. I believe the second ranking system is more effective and would be much better received. I would also love to see Leaderboards this time around as well. Season leaderboards and maybe all time leaderboards. Personal leaderboards showing how much xp, kills, deaths would also be nice. All and all I will be happy with whatever we get competitive wise as long as I am driven to play it. I personally think this would just add a little bit of extra spice to the Crucible life.
