So America, I'm noticing a lot more shootings lately,

Don't you think it's time to give up arms? Seriously, this is beyond a joke. Tighter laws and strict policy are needed to stop psychos killing innocent people. That argument of, 'Oh yeah.. the only way to kill people is with guns .. blah' - Well, it's true there are other ways to kill people. However, a gun being the most deadliest, lethal and easiest way to kill needs to be regulated alot more. I actually think its so scary that anyone can go to shop, and buy a gun. Sure, they'll do background checks, documents, so forth.. but from what I gather it's just darn to easy. I know there is alot of gun threads and debates going around but Americans need to seriously think when is enough.. enough? I'm so sick of hearing mentally ill people killing others out of suffering. It needs to stop. Sure these people, could still 'Kill people' by means.. Knifes? sure to the unexpecting eye.. but others around will have a chance to run.. or people could be trained in self defence. Your chances of surviving are alot higher then if someones pulling a trigger. In my country, I have a friend who owns a few rifles. He has to keep them in a vault at all times when not being used. Police tract his house, so incase of firing shots in the area.. police are sent to investigate his house. Countless background checks, and legitimate reasons for owning a weapon. I'm from Australia, and really.. no one has guns here. It's quite underground and it's frowned upon.

  • Funny, FBI statistics show that violent crime with guns has been steadily declining for three decades, and that violent crime with blunt objects and fists number more than with guns.

Maybe it's only being noticed because the American media decided to sensationalize it more. Maybe would-be killers are motivated by the idea of having their name up in lights and on the news, getting constant coverage and never being forgotten. I still advocate a societal change on our views of mental health as well. You wouldn't be stigmatized as someone with "problems" if you went to a doctor, so why do we always get a strange vibe when people have to go talk to a therapist? Makes no sense. It just makes it harder for people to get help. It's not like gun laws have been getting any less strict. Maybe the problem lies elsewhere. (Though I would advocate more thorough background checks and mental health certification for gun owners.) Trying to put in gun control laws in America is like trying to herd cats. You can put it on paper, but the fact of the matter is that there are too many weapons out there to be able to lock them all down. At that point, criminals have the upper hand because they could easily just break the law and have a gun anyway.

        • Lmfao I love these people. Okay the reason they are criminals is because they break the law correct? So if we make laws getting rid of guns that won't help much. I understand the point your making but if they want a gun they will get a gun. I mean they are planning on committing murder so I mean one more law won't really stop them.

        • Being the network that hired Piers Morgan, I assure you that there will always be a need for guns. Because then we can't have a 2 week discussion about gun control with out them

        • There are more shootings because people want to be copy cats. Then you get the wannabe cliche villains sitting in parked cars while the sun goes down with palm trees in the back talking like they know what theyre saying
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
I fully 100% agree with the 2nd amendment, and when I'm 18 plan on getting my firearms license. Why not have a gun when you can have one? Stand your ground laws exist for a reason.

            •
Don't you think it's time to give up arms? Seriously, this is beyond a joke.
And stopped reading there. Guns don't kill people. People kill people. People have the ability to use tools to kill other people, whether that be a gun, a knife, or any other type of weapon. The weapon itself is an inanimate object. A gun cannot fire without a person shooting it. A knife cannot stab without a person swinging it. Criminals already buy their guns illegally, so gun control surely won't stop them from getting AR-15s. If the person isn't a criminal, buys a gun legally, and then goes on a mass shooting, in just about all of these cases, the person is found to have some sort of mental illness. How on Earth would the gun seller know that the person wasn't right up in the head? he doesn't know that. That is the problem - mentally ill people who go on these mass shootings. If we can find a way to properly prevent people who aren't right in the head from getting a hold of firearms, then shootings will go down dramatically. (Referring to the video above now.) Most people who legally own guns want them to collect or for protection. I'll be honest, a gun collection is pretty sweet. Anyways, back to real uses, having a sidearm as protection well, works. It's more effective than a knife would be. Plus, how's that knife going to fare against a few criminals who have guns that they obtained illegally? Not well, I can tell you that right now. Having a firearm can prevent some crimes from happening. Take the above video for example. Those people were about to get robbed, but a senior citizen who had a firearm on him stopped the robbery. Why was he carrying it? For self protection. Was that an ample time to use it? Yes. I realize that a lot of people are for gun control, but honestly, think about all of this for a second. Would banning guns really make a difference? Yes, negatively. Crime would go up due to the lack of citizens with legal firearms.

                • Guns aren't the problem though, americans are. Some shit in their sociery needs to be sorted out before banning guns would have that much of an effect. I think.

                • Also, who is going to enforce these laws, cops? LOL. Most cops I know are some of the most ardent pro gun people I know. One of my buddies told me if guns became illegal and police were made to do house to house searches he'd leave my house giving me extra ammo. He's also been shot twice (he works in the hood) I know another cop who carries his gun with him to church.
No one will enforce gun bans
bait. Banning murder would be a much more effective and direct strategy. Oh wait.

                • Why do other countries care if Americans have guns? I genuinely just don't care if Australia or any European countries can own guns or not. It seems people in other countries are more anti gun about Americans than most Americans are

I agree that we should be looking towards the preservation of life by restricting some access towards gun control but not placing a full ban. This nation was founded from the most intellectual minds who created a constitution allowing us to bear arms. From this we can understand that we should have the right to defend ourselves against foreign tyranny or your average robber.

                • No matter what we do someone will have a gun or the means to get one. What we should do with guns is regulate them for example before anyone can buy a gun they have to take a safety and proper use of a gun class, also take proper cleaning classes and what ammo to use for each gun they want to buy. Then they have to pass a mental examination test. After that is done they have to take a marksmen test (for obvious reasons). This will also make more jobs available too.
