My grandpa died today
Yep, he lived a long (74 years old) and great life despite his severe medical conditions. I've come to realize that death should be a time of happiness, rather than mourning. Cried for a few minutes but the rest of the day I kept myself reminded of all the happy and good times with him; that's all that matters. Now, he's up in Heaven, relaxing, and free from his suffering.
And too add, he was a Catholic, extreme lover of science (especially astronomy), extremely intelligent on just about every topic there is, and was a very computer-savy. He was just a well-rounded individual for his age
Anybody else experience a loss recently?

Well my grandpa is 80 and he's got cancer pretty bad it's getting worse daily. I don't know how much longer he will be with us :/ this is a feels thread.

My pugsly-wugsly and 5 other puppies... I wish I could make Parvo (did I spell it right?) a person and kill it. Anyways, I'm sorry for your loss. R.I.P. OP's granddad.

My mom's step(real) father died about 4 years ago as well. Her biological father passed just last year. Only my mother's mother is alive, and it sucks that she's alone. Enjoy the time you get with all of your family, it all goes by so quick.

3 RepliesMy paternal grandfather died in 1990. Both of my maternal grandparents died more recently, with my grandmother in 2004, and my grandfather in 2010. I didn't have the greatest relationship with my mom's dad, being 17 when he died. I thought I had all the answers, and laughed off any advice he tried to give me. In June 2010, he told me that every time I see someone, I should act as if it's the last time I'll ever see them, because it could very well be. He suffered a stroke the next week, and died after being taken off of life support a month later. You only ever meet someone once. Act accordingly.

Edited by WickedNavajo: 5/20/2014 3:26:08 AMMy grandpa on my dad's side died seven years ago, and he was such an awesome person that it indirectly led to a lot of other blights and misfortunes on our family, such as my parents' divorce near the end of that year. It's funny, because technically he died twice; the "first time" after his first heart attack, which prompted the residing doctor(s) to furiously apply a defibrillator and he came back, and the second time years later when he truly flew off to Heaven. I hope to someday be as awesome as he was. And as for you, OP, stay strong. Because from my experience the pain doesn't go away completely, and it can be easy to mess things up in life when you're grieving. Good luck to you.

sorry to hear for your loss; my aunt recently had one of her dogs die that was a miniature schnauzer who was about 14 years old. My family and I loved the dog dearly.

1 ReplyMy family's most recent loss was the death of my great-uncle's wife two years ago, but that might change soon. Currently 3 of my 4 grandparents are still alive (I never knew my dad's father), and one of my grandmothers has COPD. Last time I heard, it suddenly got much worse, and she was hospitalized. Sorry to hear your loss, OP. But it's good that you're remembering the good times and not mourning on his death.

I don't really remember my grandfather of my mom's side since he died when I was little. My grandmother on my mom's side is in her late 80's and she's not showing signs of getting better. My uncle who she lives with is getting worried because she's not eating as much as she hardly leaves her chair.

1 ReplySorry to hear it man, but glad he's in a good place. I've only got my grams left, she's 86. I haven't experienced any loss recently. My grandparent son one side of the family died before I was born, and my grandad on the other side died quite a few years ago.

He had so many army and aircraft related books. He fixed planes in Montana during WWII. This month I did some research about a book I wanted to read that had something to do with the Cold War online. Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy looked pretty good. But I didn't want to go all the way to the book store to get it. Well, I looked through all the books we were able to save from his house before we sold it, and there it was...Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy that he had bought in 1986, which I'm now what I'm reading. That made me really happy just finding that book.
