Homeschoolers

No, we're not unsocialized. Yes, we have prom. Yes, we have more free time. No, we don't have less work. Yes, we have outside classes. Any other myths I can bust surrounding homeschooling?

  • I used to be home schooled. Hated it. My mom took me out of school after 1st grade and home schooled me until 7th grade. Constantly being around my mom all the time made me hate her, and it also made me somewhat socially awkward because I didn't get much social interaction besides the weekly meets with other home school kids. I'm so glad I got out into a public school. I joined the drama sound crew, made new friends and learned how not to be a queer. Not saying all home schoolers are queer but I was. My neighbor is home schooled. The kid is too quiet for his own good, never talks besides saying hello. Homeschooling doesn't teach you how to deal with immense academic pressure. You don't ever have times where you are cramming to study for 5 major tests all on the same day, so you can't learn time management. Especially when you get to college, it gets even more difficult. Not saying that it's an inherently bad thing, but there are a lot of negatives about it that if you don't address them properly, it can really hurt the kid.
