Homeschoolers v2

Some of us are unsocialized Yes... we have prom *cringe* Yes, we have more free time. Yes, I definitely have less work No, we don't have to have outside classes. Alright flood heres the deal. The post this is related to inspired me to give the inside scoop on this whole 'homeschool' thing. I am in my senior year, and graduate at the end of this month. This is my third year attending online high school. (it's essentially the same thing as homeschooling) We'll go over the 5 topics listed above. Myth: Some of us are unsocialized As I am in online high school, it's still considered a state school therefore I must travel to a location to take my statewide tests. (These are usually community centers, colleges, and churches.) Now mind you this is one of the only times out of the year that the kids in this school see each other. From what I've seen you have 3 groups of kids. The unsocialized kids wearing their disney sweaters who seem to be having an anxiety attack from the large group of people their age being in the same place at the same time. The group of thuggish looking kids who are in this school because they were expelled from their old schools. Then you have the medium, the kids you would normally see at public school, they dress and act how you would expect anyone else to, they're only there because they wanted an easy high school expirience or just didn't like public high school so they tried and alternative. So the myth about homeschoolers being unsolcialized is half busted I guess. Myth :Yes... we have prom *cringe* I myself have never been, but the school posts a video of the prom to youtube with footage and a camera roll. Now, pretty much every kid in the third group mentioned above does not go to this, it's beyond stupid that it exists. We never see any of our class mates so why are we throwing a prom as if we do? This video consists of all the kids in group one listed above, and their parents. Thats right, you heard it, half the pictures in the proms video are of the parents. It's the most cringe worthy awkward thing I've ever seen. Myth: Yes, we have more free time. Oh yeah, I know that I myself have a ton of free time. Online school is set up in a way where you don't have to sit in a class for an alloted amount of time. You do the work at your own pace. People like me who find school to be extremely easy are able to breeze through their classes in a couple hours and finish with 4.0 GPAs at the end of the year. I have time to work. I have time for my internship. I have time to skate, game, and do things I enjoy. Myth: Yes, I definitely have less work This is subjective. The work is about the same but if you're like me it doesn't feel like much at all. Myth: No, we don't have to have outside classes. This school I attend has no extracurricular or outside classes whatsoever. Whether or not you go out and do something to socialize is up to you. I myself have attended public school until my sophomore year and can't live without being around people so I do balance a social life around my school life fairly well. Any questions will be answered honestly and in depth. Come at me flud.

    • awwwwwww I remember the skating days. Steeze was my word, I had one of the laziest styles when skating. My really old GT used to be SteezyMe.

      • Interesting. Now I won't say my high school experience was ideal (I moved just before my freshman year and just before my junior year -no, not a military family - and that was rough having to make new friends and break into established social groups), but I did enjoy it. This idea of an online school doesn't appeal to me, but I think it would have been cool to have it as an option for at least some of my classes. I am a scientist and gear head at heart, so the humanities rarely appealed to me and I would have loved to take them at leisure. I did enjoy the activities that school offered, such as clubs, labs, and theater, and I would have missed those dearly.
