Bungie no longer owns Halo but Bungie still has the source code/right to update Halo PC as they see fit. This was even still the case when the 1.09 patch was released being the first piece of software to have Bungie's new legal name signed onto it after they departed from Microsoft. Bungie themselves are going to be hosting the master server, Bungie's lead engineer (Roger Wolfson, AKA Sawnose) wrote the patch on behalf of the community as a representative of Bungie, and he will be making an official announcement here when the patch is ready for mass release rather than the testing phase that it's in at the current moment.

  • Yep, this is correct. I'm the only one who's ever built a patch for HaloPC, so when we spun out from MS, they agreed to let me continue doing it if I want to, rather than trying to train someone there to take it over. Bungie is footing the bill for the new master server and our code-signing cert which was issued today, so this is as much an official patch as any prior one. Stay tuned for the announcement in a couple days once it clears testing.

  • Did you ever make a patch for Halo 2 Vista? You think Halo 2 Vista could be coming back? Microsoft owns Halo 2 Vista, but how does it work? Gearbox Ported Halo, Microsoft Ported Halo 2,

if you don't mind me asking, the flashlight is a projected image and not a spot light? i'm quite new to 3d development (pretty much been messing about in blender game engine) so i can't tell, I've just been quite curious about lighting in games ever since seeing unified lighting and shadow mapping, oh and thank you very much by the way :3

  • I think it was a spot light. I don't remember seeing a texture for the flashlight. + if you run the game and 4 people have their flashlight on, and another person comes in and tries to turn his on, his will not work. The Halo Engine (also known as Blam!, IIRC.) can only handle up to 4 flashlights at the same time.
