What does a production designer do?

A wide range of things actually... I've designed props,make-ups,costumes & set pieces for TV shows & movies... I've made toy prototypes for companies like Hasbro, Mattel, Dreamworks & Disney. On my current project I've designed several parts for whats called an "automata" device, in this case a (very elaborate) music box.
