Art is a suicidal job to get into. You have to really want it and ready to accept that there are huge pit falls especially for free lancers.
I've been drawing since I could hold a pencil. Because I was fairly different from my class mates I would either act out (which got my many referrals) or draw to keep myself occupied.
I've been drawing digitally a little over two years now. Almost three.
The tablets work fairly close to pen and paper. You hold it on your lap or desk and just draw. It has a wishywashy learning curve however and can take a decade or more to truly master.

Yeah I'm gonna hold onto my day job. But if I ever get half as skilled at it as I want to be and I can find somewhere to hire me I would probably switch in a heartbeat.
