During a Google Hangout session on Friday, fry cook Darnell Summers told President Obama that his hours were cut due to the Affordable Care Act. “We were broken down to part time to avoid paying health insurance,” he said. Summers explained that he makes $7.25 an hour and has been on strike four times seeking a wage increase. “We can’t survive, it’s not livin’,” he said.
The president responded by urging states to increase the minimum wage. “I am working to encourage states, governors, mayors, state legislators to raise their own minimum wage,” Obama said. “Obviously, the way to reach millions of people would be for Congress to pass a new federal minimum wage law. So far, at least, we have not seen support from Republicans for such a move.”
The president did not address Summers’s comments about the healthcare law.

The Healthcare Law sucks because instead of worrying about the people of the United States, both parties are more interested in hating one another and acting like a collection of 6 year-olds. Yes, a good Healthcare law will likely be expensive... but will Republicans cut defense spending and tax cuts for large corporations? No. Will democrats cut programmes that obviously don't work (or at least regulate them better)? No. Grow the -blam!- up, congress! /rant.

Hi, Frnksbns.

My family owns a small business. So I know how this would've affected us (more than most people here) if we fell under Obamacare; luckily we were right under the threshold. Yea, we would've been screwed if we had to pay for Obamacare. It was to much money for us to handle. Small businesses cannot do what Obamacare wants them to do.

If insurance companies didn't have the influence they do and the GOP wasn't -blam!-ing sick people the USA wouldn't be in this mess. All that was needed was a single payer system. Just scrap Medicaid and extend Medicare coverage to everyone. That's basically the two tier Canadian model. That's still not the British model which is a genuine form of socialized health care. Hopefully as the years go on the system can be developed and evolve. In implementing a health care system there will be hurdles.

Edited by Le Dustin xLil D: 2/4/2014 10:20:36 PM"So we're going to cut your hours since we can shift the blame onto Obamacare. Let's just hope people don't notice how we blamed Obamacare last year over cut hours before the bill was even enacted. The point it, we businesses always cut hours so we don't have to pay for all the extra benefits, but this time we can do it and not look bad. Let's just hope people still buy into the struggle that rich and powerful businesses are going through due to Obamacare. I mean, who needs healthcare right?"

Yeah, I lost 60% of my hours because it would be too expensive to provide healthcare for all of us, even though I'm already covered by insurance.

"It's Obama's fault that my boss is an asshole." ACA debate in a nutshell.
