Howdy. Both my wife and I have been big fans of bungie, but we just can't afford two consoles. Please tell me my wife and I will be able to play this game in splitscreen. It's not going to be a shared experience for us if one of us is forced to the sidelines. Please do not follow the trend of modern console games and do away with splitscreen. It is honestly the only thing that separates console gaming from PC gaming, and it would be an unfortunate mistake for console developers to do away with the one thing that has kept my wife and I in the console market.

It's not the fault of the developers as to why there isn't split screen anymore, it's the hardware the games are working on. Looking at Battle Field and Killzone, for example, both have extreme resolution, sometimes resulting in lag. This is a testament to the weight load these games have on the hardware, with Destiny just as big, and will only get bigger. So, in the end, I do not think split screen will be feasible. But it will be extremely satisfying and surprising if Bungie can pull off this feature along with how big Destiny is.

  • With all due respect, it isn't the system specs that are preventing certain features it is the choice of the developer to prioritize certain features (namely graphics) over others (in this case: player experience). Yes those specs are something that are limiting, but it's the developers choice as to what ultimately is limited. I played splitscreen on my n64, and honestly if it took destiny looking like Goldeneye to be playable in splitscreen I would prefer it, but don't tell me that a feature that worked over a decade ago, MUST suddenly be restricted due to current system specifications. I don't mean to bite your head off but being an apologist, and even more being an apologist for what might be and not what is, isn't going to convince me or anyone else to change our minds on the subject, so I really don't understand your intention when trying to curb people's expectations. I really don't like being told what I should expect. I have my expectations, and if you think they are too lofty, that's just like your opinion man. I will not be pleasantly surprised if Destiny has splitscreen, I will expect that it will until told otherwise, because that is the standard I am holding console developers to. It is important that we as consumers hold developers to a standard rather than being apologists for them. If you want to be like you are that's fine, I just don't want anyone to try convince me not to do what I'm doing personally. But console developers need to realize that they are making themselves irrelevant the more they limit shared screen experiences. I will be that prophet if no one else will be. There is no difference between a PC game and console game if I can't sit shoulder to shoulder with my wife, brother, or friend, and plug in my controller next to theirs. Without splitscreen in Destiny (or any other major next gen games) I doubt I'd purchase a next-gen console besides the Wii U, because although Nintendo has fallen behind as far as online experience and system performance, at least they know what separates a console from other experiences (hint: it isn't graphics). For non nintendo titles I'll just upgrade my PC at a fraction of the price of getting a new console, and since consoles don't provide shared experiences within the confines of my living room, I won't be missing out on a thing.

  • First, I apologize, as I do not intend to intentionally sway your opinions nor your expectations. My comment states my justification of why such features have not been present, and mine alone. I understand that your expectations differ from mine, as we have different consumer needs. I apologize for not making that clear, but have now done so. As for this title of being an apologist, I politely disagree. I have a standard for what Bungie is capable of from what I have seen them do in the past, and the new-found potential that they have in being a separate developer. I believe this game will be great, and though it will affect you exponentially more than me, split screen will not make the difference to me. I respect your views and how they differ from mine.

  • Sorry for biting your head off man... I just can't take being so hyped for a game and so worried at the same time that it won't meet my expectations. Sorry I took it out on you.

  • I accept your apology and am glad that you are among the many looking forward to this game. Though not many details are out right now, I'm certain that as summer approaches, Bungie will reveal more and more details. And for your sake, as well as many other excited will-be guardians, I hope that split-screen will be a feature. How Bungie will do it, beyond my knowledge. But they've done great things, and that is enough for me to trust them with all the time I will spend on this game.
