I've been listening back to the Podcasts since the Jan one came out and one particular statement from Deej on weapons kinda stuck out to me: "I like the feeling that this is my gun, I've made choices that have made it what it is". So... (And yeah I know I pry won't get an answer but gotta try) does this mean when we can upgrade our weapon we are presented with choices about how to upgrade it? EG Improving the weapon's accuracy or increasing the damage it does. Would that also cover adding different components to the weapon (as displayed by The Silver Dollar Shotgun drawing board feature)? And finally how does that compare to Exotic weapons? Because at E3 last year the Thunder Lord upgrade path appeared to just be a continual progression rather than more of a branching tree of options.

Yes. Bungie has claimed that all weapons will feature skill trees to customize weapons. I personally believe that this feature will behave in accordance to the rarity of a weapon, however. For example, a common gun will probably have an inferior skill tree compared to that of a superior or exotic weapon, in both perks and size. So, a good weapon could be used and upgraded for a good time, then you can move on to another, better weapon to invest in, rather than sifting through piles of guns looking for minimal improvements.

  • I know they have - I'm just hoping for a more detailed answer. They were talking about having a "punchy progression system" in the last Podcast where you could get a weapon nicely or fully upgraded in a night's worth of play, I'd be inclined to think that'd be for normal non-'exotic' weapons. But again the Thunder Lord appeared to just have a progression path not a branching tree.

With as many guns in Destiny, each with unique trees, I'm not surprised the skill trees are the size that they are. Each weapon, I believe, was designed to have an ultimately unique effect and be really cool to use by the time you're done upgrading it, and that is the effect Bungie wants you to have. So no, there wont be variants of one weapon guardians are walking around with, but rather guardians walking around all with different weapons. And in my experiences, evening game sessions are 8-10 hours in length. And note that weapons are upgraded through use.

  • Yes I grasp that. But as I keep saying DeeJ stated "choices" hence my wondering about precisely what that means and if Exotics are different in that they have a single, longer, path instead of shorter branching trees.

  • Sorry, I don't have a specific answer, as I can't recall any valid information relating to that. I personally think that gun trees will follow some template(s), each having some generic perks (accuracy, capacity), and others different.
