If there is a leaderboard, I'll want to get placed in the top 10%.
Then, I will try not to think about cool beta features that might be cut from the final game. (Emblems, DMR recoil, green spartans vs purple elites, armor, etc.)

If my wish comes true then we'll get to keep most of the things we earn in the beta and carry them over to the final game.

It probably won't. The save files on your console will be associated with the beta programme, which is identifies as a completely different game. The only way you're getting that is if Bungie backs up everyone's save files on their server, which would be costly, and would detract from the fairness of launch day.
