Muting people?… :(

I feel bad for using the mute button, I'm new on here but the trolls come out of their cave quite quickly don't they? Let me know how bad it can get on here…

Bungie recently changed their policies around banning users, and the role of moderators. It's now a more democratic-like system. Users are mostly free to post whatever they like. However, any user can mute you. They don't have to wait for a mod to find the post and ban you. It's immediate and personal. If enough users mute a single account, that account will become globally muted for a period of time. If you are following someone, you will still see their posts, even if they have been globally muted. If you really feel that a post has crossed the line, use the report button, and it'll get flagged for review from a mod, and can result in a ban for that user.
